Students in Mme Ingham's French 2 class have had to push their French speaking abilities lately. In their longest sustained speaking assessment to date, students will present their daily life routines in detailed sentences in French. The assessment has challenged students to not only speak for a longer period of time, but they are also using vocabulary that connects to their lives on a regular basis. Continuing to bring the French language into a student's routine will help extend and solidify their understanding of another language.
Mme Ingham has also noticed that a lot of our MVU students are enjoying skiing and snowboarding at Smuggs on Saturdays, and she loves seeing them on the slopes!

Feeling the Love Many students (and staff!) around the building today were spotted with beautiful carnation flowers. The Future Business Leaders of America club sold Valentine's carnations as a fundraiser. Each carnation was delivered with a personal message from the sender, and many people at MVU sent a flower to friends and significant others. The Fundraiser
Mrs. Szafarski, the FBLA club adviser shared that the purpose of the fundraiser was to raise money for the FBLA State Leadership Conference that is being held at Lake Morey Resort in March this year. The club would like to send each of its members to the conference, but that comes with a hefty price tag. Between registration and travel fees, FBLA needs to raise around $2,800. The students of FBLA are designing every aspect of each fundraiser that they hold, and by doing so they are practicing the very skills that future business leaders need. "They have a business goal that they want to accomplish," Szafarski said. "They are willing to put in the planning and the hard work that goes along with achieving that goal." At the conference, students will hear from keynote speaker Kent Julian, a professional speaker and dual business owner, participate in workshops related to business functions, and are able to network with students from across the state (and eventually, the nation). Students compete in business events and receive valuable feedback from business professionals. It is an awesome opportunity for personal and professional growth, prizes, scholarships, community service, networking, and so much more! Donations Despite the success of the carnation sale, and future planned fundraisers, FBLA could still benefit from the community's help. The club is currently accepting donations from community members and local businesses. If you would like to donate to this wonderful cause, or sponsor a student's registration fees, please contact Jessica Szafarski at [email protected] Students in Art 2, Art 3/4, and Graphic Design have been very busy lately. In Graphic Design students are in the middle of creating t-shirt designs for a company. Using the "Love Me" logo, they are set with the task of producing a design inspired by Valentine's Day. To hone in on their skills, they are also incorporating the style of illustrator and graphic artist Chris Piascik. Students are in the middle of their project, and here are some photos of their creativity at work: In Art 2 students are in the middle of a large painting project using the ideas and motifs found in Surrealist artwork. Students began the project by building their own 3D canvases which they are using to draw and paint their work. Check out their progress! Art 3/4 students will be treated to two guest speakers next week. A representative from the Swanton Arts Council and Sophie from Village Frame Shop will be coming to speak to students about the process of reproducing their artwork for profit. They will also be speaking about the SAC Youth Art Show, and the Emerging Artist Award.
As a school, we are so excited about all of the wonderful opportunities our students get to experience on a daily basis. A special thank you to art teacher Ms. Didio for creating the space for students to push their creative boundaries, and for introducing them to professionals in the art world.

The MVU National Honor Society raised over $900 for the American Cancer Society by selling daffodils. They were presented with this bear as a reward for being the top fundraising team in Franklin County. We are so proud of our students for raising funds and awareness for this awesome cause.
In our 11-12th grade Mechanics II class here at MVU, taught by Joe Barney, students made this awesome sign: The sign is the result of a competition held at VTC's diesel campus in Randolph, VT. It took 3.5 hours to make, and it will now be displayed with pride in our mechanics shop. The competition was sponsored by the National Guard, and the students utilized the National Guard's support and equipment to make the sign. The participating MVU students took second place, and each participating student won a $1,500 scholarship to either Vermont Technical College or Advanced Welding Institute. Great work, team! We're proud of you!
